Execution - Kill IT!
As I have said before excellence is a choice. A choice we must make. It is our responsibility to live beyond our potential to realize the true greatness we all have been given. 3E Personal Excellence is found first in Personal Expertise as discussed in my last blog ‘Expertise & the “IT” factor’. We must engage in taking our expertise – our confidence, our ability to BE the difference while doing what no one else will do happily and bring it to life through the second E: Personal Execution. We must kill it!
Personal execution is the ability to use our expertise to breathe vitality, life, soul and huge passion into our interactions. Setting our personal excellence benchmark is not found in average interactions. It’s found in the extraordinary execution of our lives in everyday interactions. We change lives simply through being the best in every moment. I heard my mentor ask a client, “Are you a criminal or a liar” while trying to shake someone’s supposed reality into true consciousness. I loved the metaphor because it made such sense. He was really asking ‘are you stealing from your family, business, life and experiences by not doing everything you are capable to do or are you lying by saying you are when the proof is not in the pudding’. When we execute our personal lives at exceptional levels we open the doors to full the engagement of our experiences. We open the flood gates of abundance in our lives. Here are the 3 steps to killer personal execution;
1. Over promise and over deliver. How many times have you been told one thing and something far less moving was delivered? How did that feel? Awful right? Disappointing for sure. I have even heard business people say proudly, “We UNDER promise and then deliver over the under promise and we look great.” No you look stupid! Here’s the key – we must promise more than we think possible and more than we think the person on the other end is expecting then do whatever it takes to ensure we provide more than we said we would. This is the first key to Massive Personal Excellence.
2. Create the WOW factor constantly. When we over promise and over deliver we can’t help but create a WOW factor. But there is more to it. The WOW factor is also an attitude. A deliverable. It’s about what we give to the universe we live in. It’s in our presence and demeanor. It’s in our dress and decorum. We all have a brand and our brand must WOW. This is executing on our expertise – it creates an amazing experience for others as well as ourselves.
3. Smash the Walls. Doubt and fear are the shackles to executing personal excellence. We choose not to engage in 3E personal excellence for many reasons but they all seem to boil down to fear. What will people think? Will I be ridiculed? What if I fail? It’s time to smash the walls of our fear and doubt. When we live with true confidence and execute our lives in such a way it improves the lives of others – there is nothing to fear. This is an amazing and beautiful gift. Do not allow fear to stop the realization of potential and greatness.
There is a process and strategy and to seeing our lives be more than we ever thought possible. We must choose to engage excellence. We must do whatever it takes. When we choose excellence for ourselves we create the third E which is the lynch pin to the entire process. When the third E is developed and delivered – our wildest dreams come true.
Expertise and the “IT” factor
3E living will guarantee you are the greatest you. Excellence is a choice. A choice you must make.
Often I am asked how to ensure success. To me the heart of the matter is always a matter of heart. We look to successful people with awe and reverence as if the most successful people have some magic formula. Look - the only difference between you and the most successful people in the world is they have executed massive levels of effort and action to achieve what they believe is their destiny. Living with excellence is the key to unlocking your potential. The first of the 3E's will build the foundation to massive success and excellence in life. The first E is expertise.
I'm sure your asking yourself, "what does expertise have to do with excellence"? Think of every successful person you have ever met. Not only are they experts in their fields but they have the confidence needed to achieve their fullest potential. The way to guarantee success is to have an unwavering believing in yourself and your abilities. If Gladwell's assertion is correct and it takes 10000 hours to gain expertise then literally 5 years of full time work will create expertise. C'mon! It took me 5years in my first business to know the difference between my ass and a whole in the ground. However once I figured out what I was doing and realized my own potential I unlocked the first secret to success - expertise. So here are the building blocks to expertise.
#1 confidence. The difference between confidence and cockiness is provenness. Be confident in yourself and your own ability. You ARE the best. You may be the only one who doesn't believe it. And if you don't believe it ask yourself, "am I doing everything I need to do to be the best?" You will find the closer you are to the real answer to that question the closer you will be to the truth about yourself. If you are weighing in on the side of cockiness you're not working hard enough on proving your worth through hard work. Get after it.
#2 be the difference. When you are the difference between average and extraordinary you become the expert in your field. Be the example of what excellence looks like. Be the "it" factor people often talk about. When you raise your game to this level you become unstoppable. People start coming to you for all kinds of things you never thought they would. You also close business like a freak. You deserve to exploit your IT factor.
#3 do what no one else will do...happily. When you do what no one else will do happily you set yourself apart from the crowd instantly. All the average and below average do-nothings whine and complain about how hard it is to succeed. Don't listen to their negativity. Just do all the things they complain about and watch yourself thrive. There is no secret to this. It's just about busting your hind parts constantly. Yes it's tough. Yes it rough. But what part of succeeding and maximizing your potential isn't tough. It's so worth it.
There is absolutely a road map to success. My 3E Excellence Solutions are proven and will absolutely take you from having potential to maximizing your potential. From "could be" to "IS". In the new economy and the new world order there is no room for average, almost or sort of. You owe it to yourself, your family and your clientele to become the greatest you ever. The second E will show you how. Stay tuned.
You are whether you like it or not
You are a leader whether you like it or not.
We are all leaders. We may not be good at it or see ourselves that way but we are. Even if your title or roll professionally doesn’t include a leadership component you are still a leader. If you are a man, woman, friend, child, sister, brother, husband, wife, parent, employer or employee you are a leader. Basically if you are breathing you are a leader. It’s not whether or not you lead it’s whether or not anyone is following you which is the litmus test.
Ron Karr, author of the bestselling book ‘Lead, Sell, or Get Out of The Way” recently asked me, “What makes a leader?” My answer was, “They lead.” Flippant maybe but true. Ron responded, “What defines a leader to you?” My response was this, “Leading involves casting a compelling vision, setting a course to realize the vision, putting forth the level of effort and action needed to accomplish the vision while compelling those you lead to achieve the vision in kind and supporting, encouraging and affirming your followers constantly to the successful realization of the vision.” His response was, “That is a fantastic detailed explanation.” Only because it’s true.
We fear leading because it’s hard but so is everything else worth doing. Just because it’s hard doesn’t mean it shouldn’t come to pass. Ask any woman who has given birth. It’s hard but if women just gave up when it was hard none of us would be here. Leadership is hard – on a large scale or on a small scale. But you still have to do it. Everyone who is lead will test the mettle of the one leading. Children do it, employees do it, friends do it, volunteers do it – everybody. So if you’re wondering why people aren’t listening to you – look in the mirror. You are probably not leading them. Or worse you and your message are misaligned. Get your head right and be consistent. Stop making excuses and start leading.
Cast the vision – share with those you influence where you see everyone going. This may be your family, friends, associates, employees or anyone you looks to you to set the pace. They look to you because there is something about you they trust. Casting the vision is what you all deserve. So write it down and share it.
Set the expectation through delivering excellence – no one should be working harder than you. None of the people you lead will look to you as a leader if they are pulling you along. Quit being a whinny baby about how much there is to do and how hard it is and deliver through massive effort. Everyone is waiting for you to set the pace and create the momentum. Once you have the ball rolling you can pass the touch to those following to continue replicating what you are doing.
Celebrate the victories – all victories should be celebrated and encouraged from you to your followers. Whether the followers are your children, spouse, volunteers, employees or those whose lives you influence you must find them doing what you expect and praise them for the correct behaviour. An authentic ‘Great job! Keep it up.’ will go light years towards achieving your big vision.
Look behind you. Is there anyone there? If the answer is no you do not have a follower problem. Look in the mirror. This is where the issue is found. The great news is employing the execution of excellence will create great leadership in your life.

You no longer can afford average.
The global economic recession has taken “average” out at the knees. Where average was a safe place to land it is now a recipe for disaster. As an immigrant, my father did everything he could to fight for the opportunities everyone else had. Now average will keep you out of work, out of line and out of control. Average will get you increasingly less than what you have always gotten. It allows you to do what you have always done while expecting a different result. Einstein called this perspective, "the definition of insanity." Average allows you to blame and excuse everything you do and/or don't do without ever having to look in the mirror. It did for me. I have experienced periods of average. I run a company where we develop excellence in people and organizations as our mission and I have delivered average think, average action and average results. Just like you I have been a victim of my own choices. How can you expect to realize your own potential for the sake of your family, children, company or future with average? The only way to succeed in life is through constantly delivering excellence.
Look at the most successful people in the world in any field. The one name people: Trump, Oprah, Jobs, Buffett, Zuckerberg, Brad, Tiger, Gaga, Cardone, Robbins, Branson - the list goes on and on. What makes them different from you? NOTHING. They simply employ and deliver an unbridled commitment to excellence in every aspect of their lives. If there is nothing different between us and them then we must engage our excellence and realize success.
Here are the 4 key ways to engage and deliver excellence;
To fully realize our potential and to get out of the illness of average we must commit. Commit to everything. Commit to yourself, your family, your success and your life. Without commitment – average takes the place of excellence. Average is the excuse laden place fear lives. I don’t know about you but to me fear is the scourge of human existence. It hinders everything and is the excuse used to not live fully. The one thing you should quit is fear. Quit and commit.
2. Write down your goals.
I have studied and been mentored by the most successful people in the world and without exception they all say the same thing, “to achieve your goals you must write them down.” Having employed this strategy and habit I can tell you first hand it works and in spades. When you write down your goals you begin to focus and move towards your ideal. Anything is possible when you commit to the goal and employ excellence as the fuel to get there. Write them down constantly and as you have new aspirations and desires – write those down too. Writing down your goals allows you to see them in your mind and provides a roadmap to getting there. If you don’t know what you want you will always get less then you have. You know this is true. Nothing you count as an achievement has been achieved without deciding to do it and if you have never achieved anything – you have accepted average as the path for your life. There is so much more. Choose excellence.
3. Develop an action plan.
The key word here is action. To move from average to excellent you must start to act. The average spend more time thinking than succeeding. Achieving excellence is not found resting on your laurels. Commit to not remaining average. Now is the time to get an action plan. If your goal is to have an exceptional marriage, get a PHd, become a multimillionaire or change the world it all comes with a first step. That’s it. You must commit to your first step and go from there. As my mentor says, “stop analysing and start acting.” Your excellence is found in the creativity and momentum of the first step. Do it.
4. Take action.
There is nothing you have achieved in your life for which you have not taken action. If you have never achieved – you have never taken action. Take action now. Do not let the sun do down on one more day without taking action toward excellence. There is no magic formula, no special gift, no secret access just action. Your excellence is found in actually doing it. Continually take action every moment of everyday until your goal is realized. That is the execution of excellence.
Excellence is the only thing which will keep you from disaster. It’s not the economy, not the government, not your talent not even your past. If you have chosen not to execute on you and your excellence you will stay in the middle and remain average. As you know the squeeze is on the average and average is a death sentence. You deserve better, your business deserves better, your family deserves better and your buyers deserve better. It’s time for better. It’s time for excellence.
