Watching Dreams Come True: A World Record Experience.
I often talk about dreams coming true. I use it as a metaphor. Maybe it binds me to my friends, my mission, and what fires me up. Dreams – and the realization of them. Maybe it’s why as I sit and reflect on the last few days, the size of what I experienced is just now setting in. Today I had the pleasure of being part of a dream coming true. As a result of the unbridled courage of someone I have never met – mine did as well.
Susan Baroncini-Moe set out the break the Guinness Book of World Record for the longest live uninterrupted webcast. Fitting for an entrepreneur who uses the internet masterfully as the conduit for her own business. She sets her goals, achieves them, and teaches micro-entrepreneurs (the phrase she coined to refer to businesses owned and operated by one or two people) to do the same. She didn’t set her goal to surpass the standing record by one minute. Rather she chose to double the sitting World Record leaving no doubt as to her achievement. Set your goals high. You will be amazed by what you achieve when you do.
Have you ever met one of those people who set their mind to something and it always happens? They will tell you they didn’t believe it could happen once it does but they are usually the only ones aren’t they? From the moment Susan’s husband gave that last encouraging word to “go for it” there would be no stopping her. What struck me about the attempt was all of the fabulous support she rallied around her in a few short weeks to make her dream a reality. The ultimate beauty of the dream becoming a reality, from my vantage point, was in order for her dream to come true she provided the opportunity for everyone else involved to have theirs come true as well. What a dream come true to have a platform to speak from and share expertise the likes of which are not normally available. To me that is visionary. To me that is true leadership at its best. To me that is the kind of world class experience we will talk about for a lifetime.
As one of the participants it was a dream come true to be able to speak at such an amazing event. The talent she assembled was world class. Thought leaders, experts, up and comers, WOW level presentations all colored the event with beauty. To be asked to speak and have that level of platform if only for an hour was my dream come true. The fact I could help someone I admire have hers come true takes the words out of my mouth.
Susan engaged her bucket list and was open and giving, allowing so many great people to come around her and help make it happen. From tech people, to venue support, to some of the greatest presenters and business people in the world everyone brought their best. Everyone engaged at the highest level. Everyone did whatever it took to see Susan’s dream become a reality. The power of what Susan brought together was amazing to behold.
